Disaster Preparedness
The American Legion Auxiliary Post 134, Walker MN is hosting a community event on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 from 10 am until 12:00 Noon. This community event will be focusing on protecting homes and families from wildfires, natural disasters, and how to prepare. Representative from our National Forest, DNR, Cass County Emergency Mgmt, and local Fire Department.
These are the items we will be covering:
1. Would your home be ready? When was the last time your gutters were cleaned and should we install 1/8" vent screens in our eaves?
2. How far away should our wood piles be from the home and garage? 25 ft or more?
3. Closest trees should be how close to a home and should certain types of trees be removed?
4. Should we replace our mulch landscaping and replace it with rock?
5. How far can burning embers travel and reignite? 1 mile or more?
6. How long should hoses be? 100 ft or more? Is a certain type of hose better than another kind? Best sprayer ends?
7. Should we have an additional water source?
8. Can fire trucks get down my driveway and road? Winter and summer issues with width clearance and height of trucks?
9. What would be the best emergency routes for Cass County?
10. What should I have packed and ready to go?
11 What documents do I need? Meds and titles?
12. Where should I evacuate to?
13. Does Cass County have a large facility planned for families?
14. Does Cass County have a large facility for stock and small animals?
15. What if a fire overtakes me in my car?
16. What if a fire overtakes me in my home?
17. How many firefighters are located in Cass County?
18. Where would a fire command center be located?
19. Where would we get fire information from during an emergency?
20. When should we not call 911?
21. What would be the chance of a large fire in our area?
