Wildlife Tracking Hike: Early Winter
The first signs of winter are all around us. Join us for an afternoon hike along the North Country Trail as we explore the tracks of Itasca’s critters in the first dustings of snow. This 2.5 mile hike will pass through stands of birch and aspen and scattered stands of red pine. We will conclude at Iron Corner—the location where three counties—Becker, Clearwater and Hubbard—come together. (refer to Maps 13 and 13-A, pages 109; 115-116 of the “Guide to the North Country National Scenic Trail in Minnesota”).
Notes: Dress for being outdoors, including sturdy boots that can get wet/muddy, water, energy snack, hat, gloves and hiking/trekking poles.
Meet at the North Country Trail Head Parking at the South Entrance to Itasca State Park at 1 p.m. The route will follow the North Country Trail west, to Iron Corner (near the junction of Ozawindib and Eagle Scout trails). Route may change based on weather and snow conditions.
